Among all, however, there is one that combines business with pleasure, with taste: the return of the classic waistcoatThe tailored waistcoat.

If the term seems obsolete, the outfit with the waistcoat is one of the most up-to-date. Already spotted in street style and on the stars, today it has the approval of the catwalks. And it brings the men’s garment back to life, in an empowerment key.
Where have we seen it
The male bodice, a fundamental element of thethree piece wedding suit together with a jacket and trousers, it was born without sleeves and buttons on the front. In outfits for him, it is normally worn over a shirt and under a jacket, and requires a tie or bow tie. Royal charm, anti-aristocratic feeling, like its origins: it is in fact after the French Revolution that vests and waistcoats took on the shape we know today. But we have to wait for the look of the revolutionary Marlene Dietrich and of the refined Katharine Hepburn to see the waistcoat worn by women, from the 1950s onwards. In Spring-Summer 2023, the piece borrowed from the men’s wardrobe becomes the protagonist of feminine looks, without losing almost any of its characteristics: short at the waist, distinguished by the asymmetrical hem with a front tail, slightly tailored to emphasize the shapes and equipped with a tongue adjustable in the back.

The color and the materials represent the most evident update of the modern women’s waistcoat: essentially basic tones, from white to beige, for fabrics other than wool and silk, ranging from stiff cottons to tailoring satin to light linen twill – just like that, which responds to the name of Bennettproposed by the American Veronica Beard, champion of casual chic style. The ton sur ton buttons add a classy touch.
How to match the women’s waistcoat in Spring-Summer 2023
The tailored waistcoat proposed by the designer – and similar models – have a naturally refined aura. But the combination of the waistcoat seen in the fashion show is the cue to keep in mind: the secret is to wear it as if it were a top, closed and in contact with bare skin. The effect is that of a short sleeveless t-shirt, but it is more refined. What pants to wear the white or beige waistcoat with? A sartorial model with a high or very high waist, with a front pleat, represents the most successful mix, to be worn by superimposing different neutral nuances on top of each other.
Another little styling trick to steal from the catwalk: unbutton the last buttonhole, for a sensual and discreet touch that stands out. The shoes take a back seat, as well as the other accessories, leaving the vest as the absolute protagonist. The only addition allowed, a chunky and eye-catching chain necklace, for the evening or a special occasion, which makes the look perfect even for a ceremony.
