Women’s statues in Assen dressed up on International Women’s Day

‘Shining in nakedness’

Tuesday 8 March, International Women’s Day, is the ideal day to throw a stone into the proverbial pond, she says. “In the last few days at school, we also thought about this day. I recently went to the Drents Museum with some students, where the same image is shown in miniature. She also shines in nudity and we have already checked whether I am wearing her clothes. could pull. We will do that later.”

Dekker asked permission from artist Natasja Bennink. She designed both works of art. “Bennink thought it was a good idea,” says Dekker. “The Venus van Kloosterveen is located in a neighborhood where many streets are named after important Dutch women. So it fits here perfectly.”

Statement

Thanks to the help of the municipality of Assen, who came to help with an aerial platform, the statue in Kloosterveen was dressed in no time. “It certainly looks cool,” Dekker says proudly. “I got a scarf yesterday sewn away with a student of mine, with the message that the Venus van Kloosterveen will take good care of it.”

Tomorrow both statues will be stripped of their clothes.
