Women’s sprint: German biathletes knocked off in Öberg’s sprint victory – biathlon – winter sports

Öberg is now the top favorite at the Olympics

In the case of top wind conditions, experts in Ruhpolding expected close results. All the more surprising was Öberg’s big lead, who was able to make up some ground on the athletes in front of her in the World Cup. In this form, the 22-year-old is definitely one of the medal contenders at the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.

Hildebrand best Germans: “We do our best”

There has not yet been any significant progress to report among German women who have recently been unable to compete. It is indicative that the best of the day was the experienced Franziska Hildebrand. She came in a satisfactory 17th place (1 / + 1: 17.9 minutes).

“I’ve been feeling better and better from race to race lately. Here on my home track I thought it could be a good race.”, said the 34-year-old, who was long removed from the World Cup and started in the second-rate IBU Cup, on ZDF. In spite of everything, she herself looks ahead positively: “We do our best, we work hard. At some point everything has to fit together again. Then it can go very far.”

Herrmann continues to suffer: “the flow” is missing

Denise Herrmann (2 / + 1: 26.7) is also hoping for this, who again awarded a better placement at the shooting range and was 24th at the end: “There are sub-disciplines that work in parts,” said the Saxon on ZDF. “It went well with prone shooting, it just doesn’t work standing up.” When asked, she said that she had tried a lot to get back “in this flow” to come that one needs to get good results. Above all, there was a lack of self-confidence and the right relaxation. “But you can’t force it. I just have to believe in myself; then the day will come when it will work again”, she stayed positive.

Voigt solid – Hinz missed pursuit races

Vanessa Voigt (1 / + 1: 36.7 minutes) once again showed a very solid performance, especially when shooting. Her 29th place bothered her a little: “Today it was better running than in Oberhof. But now I really have to do something in the first lap”, said the 24-year-old on ZDF was dissatisfied with her mileage at the beginning of the race.

Vanessa Hinz (3/2: 21.0) had to worry about qualifying for the pursuit race until the end. Marion Wiesenarter and Hanna Kebinger missed this.
