At the first ski jumping of the season, Silje Opseth celebrated victory. The DSV team, on the other hand, experienced a disappointing start.

In the fog of Wisla, the ski jumping women went over the ski jump in the first competition on Saturday (November 5th, 2022). However, at the early start of the World Cup season, the wintry mood didn’t really want to arise, since the jumps were not on artificial snow, but on mats. After all, it was not unfamiliar terrain for the athletes.

In the first competition, the favorites prevailed at the top: Norwegian Silje Opseth celebrated her second World Cup success with jumps of 123 and 127 meters. Behind her, the Austrians Marita Kramer (121.5/125 m) and Eva Pinkelnig (125.5/126.5 m) jumped onto the podium.

The former ski jumping dominator Maren Lundby (NOR) reported back in 16th place after a year and a half break (117/115.5 m).

Disappointing start for DSV athletes

In the DSV team, Selina Freitag managed to make the best appearance at the first location determination. However, with 117.5 and 112.5 meters she could not deliver any jumps. The current German champion ended up in 19th place. Agnes Reisch (111.5/111.5) came in 20th behind her. For Katharina Althaus, silver medalist from Beijing, the jumps of 109.5 meters and 114.5 meters were certainly not the result she had hoped for. She had to settle for 21st place.

Luisa Görlich (105/110 m) and team colleague Anna Rupprecht (107.5/105.5 m) got the first World Cup points in 26th and 29th place. Pauline Hessler (93.5 m) was not there in the final round.

For the start of the World Cup, the ski jumpers meet in Wisla, Poland – the 2nd round in full length.

The two German ski jumpers Karl Geiger and Markus Eisenbichler have become close friends over the years. During competitions they not only share their passion for ski jumping, but even a double.
