Women’s racing series is canceled due to money problems

The women’s motorsport series W Series, which once started with high hopes, has to end its season prematurely due to financial problems. The organizers announced that the last races of the year in the USA and Mexico could no longer be held.

The British Jamie Chadwick is once again the winner of the title. The 24-year-old had already won the previous two titles in 2019 and 2021.

The reason for the financial problems of the W Series is the exit of an important financier. She was “sad and disappointed” by the end of the season, said managing director Catherine Bond Muir. It is known that significantly less money flows into women’s sports than into men’s sports. “The W Series is no exception,” said Bond Muir.

The racing series was created to give racing drivers at a high level racing and training opportunities. One goal was to pave the way for female drivers to enter Formula 1. After all, Chadwick was able to draw attention to herself and received a contract as a development driver with the Formula 1 team Williams.

Managing Director Bond Muir assured that despite the current concerns, the W Series has a future. “As a start-up in just our third year, we’re working hard to secure steady cash inflows as we grow our business,” she said.
