“Tu who write about a feminine, what do you think of theL’interview by Elly Schlein a Vogue, that of the color schemer?”.
In this question, which has been asked to me countless times in the last few weeks, two errors of perspective coexist against which I have repeatedly thought of reacting by opposing the best of my smiles. But not having Elly’s unsettling instinct, I fought back my fury and armed myself with arguments to smooth over misunderstandings.
This newspaper, like Vogueretains the noble title of feminine. Noble, because the newspapers born for female readers have always carried out, more or less lightly, the historical task of detecting fashions and anticipating them.
Fashions understood as lifestyles, attitudes, interests, ambitions, hopes, achievements, defeats of women.
Leafing through the women chronologically, you would notice that nothing has escaped the many changes that have taken place in the lives of women and many have been and still are the battles waged for their affirmation.
However, the term “feminine” is limiting, considering that this newspaper, for example, now has readers of all genresas I can see from the letters arriving in this section.
The second misunderstanding concerns the interview with Schlein, which I ran to read and that I find a beautiful all-round portrait that gave me the opportunity to get an idea of who the new secretary of the Democratic Party is. Reading it in full, that mention of the color scheme disappears among the curiosities. So why so much noise?
Because in Italy a leftist leader has yet to pass the test of pauperism: dressing modestly, not having a maid, going on holiday in a modest location.
All this when by now the aspiration to live a comfortable life, and not just to survive, is typical of any social class and many things are changing, starting from the world of work, in which having one is no longer enough: one is looking for a job that pleases, that contemplates our most human side.
For those who have not understood this, all that remains is to stick to the formalisms and sympathize with the next leader who, respecting all the conventions, will be able to trick him. Congratulations.
