The BVB women lost 24:32 (9:16) in their own hall on Saturday and conceded their third defeat of the season. Bietigheim, on the other hand, remains undefeated. Although BVB have played two games less so far, Dortmund can only theoretically push Bietigheim off the top of the table. BVB remains in second place with 36:6 points and is certainly qualified for the European League.
Dortmund’s Alina Grijseels and Bietigheim’s Inger Smits were the top scorers of the game with six goals each. Dortmund’s Frida Rønning contributed five goals.
Bietigheim with 11:2 run
BVB actually got off to a better start and were leading 4:2 after six minutes. But then Bietigheim turned up the heat and, thanks to an 11:2 run, pulled away to 13:6. Ultimately, that was the cornerstone of our success. BVB came back to 14:17 in the second half, but could no longer seriously endanger the Bietigheim team.
BVB will now continue next Wednesday with the catch-up game of the 18th matchday at SV Union Halle-Neustadt. Bietigheim receives VfL Oldenburg on the same day.
