As of: February 8, 2024 8:30 p.m

The Eintracht Frankfurt Women beat SC Freiburg and are only two wins away from the DFB Cup final. It is already clear that the opponent in the quarter-finals is also possible.

The Eintracht Frankfurt women are in the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup. Coach Niko Arnautis’ team took advantage of the home advantage on Thursday evening and beat league rivals SC Freiburg 2-1 (1-0) in the round of 16. The goals were scored by Shekiera Martinez (25th) and Verena Hanshaw (52nd).

Freiburg strikes back

The Breisgau women still played a strong game in the stadium at Brentanobad and missed the best opportunities in the first round through Ally Gudorf (22nd) and Hasret Kayikci (32nd). When Samantha Steuerwald managed to score just before the final whistle (87′), things got exciting and really hectic again.

In the fifth minute of injury time, the Freiburg women were already celebrating the supposed equalizer. Since the ball that was kicked from the corner into the penalty area was already out of bounds, the hit did not count. Eintracht trembled and ultimately celebrated their move into the next round.

MSV Duisburg is waiting in the quarter-finals

At the beginning of March, Eintracht will face Bundesliga bottom team MSV Duisburg to make it to the semi-finals. The Hessians will go into the game as the clear favorites.

Another DFB Cup round of 16 with Hessian participation will take place next Wednesday (7 p.m.): Then the Offenbacher Kickers will host the big FC Bayern.
