TSG Hoffenheim had to admit defeat to FC Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup. An ex-Hoffenheimer put FC Bayern on the road to victory.
TSG Hoffenheim and FC Bayern Munich, fourth and second in the table in the women’s Bundesliga, met in the DFB Cup on Tuesday evening (February 28). FC Bayern controlled the match for the entire 90 minutes and deservedly won 2-0 (0-0) in the end.
Lina Magull has the first good chance of the game
There were no dangerous chances in the early stages at the Dietmar Hopp Stadium because Hoffenheim defended as one and gave the strong Munich team little room to develop. Lina Magull had the first notable scoring chance for the visiting team when she droppedkicked over the Hoffenheim box from the inside right after 25 minutes.
As the game went on, FC Bayern increased the pressure and came up with numerous good final moments. First Linda Dallmann just missed the goal with a volley (33′), shortly afterwards a cross from Carolin Simon smacked the crossbar of the TSG goal (35′). In addition, Hoffenheim goalkeeper Martina Tufekovic fended off a good low shot from Dallmann in the 39th minute, meaning that the break went goalless.
Rall gives Bayern the lead against Hoffenheim
FC Bayern continued to dominate the game after the break, but didn’t have a convincing chance to score for a long time. Hoffenheim rarely dared to go forward, a shot by Chantal Hagel clearly missed the Munich goal (67th). And almost in return, the second-placed Bundesliga team scored the opening goal: Klara Bühl’s shot caught the TSG defense and Maximiliane Rall scored the rebound to make it 1-0 for Bayern (68′). The former Hoffenheim player Rall had only come into play a quarter of an hour earlier for the ailing Lina Magull.
After the opening goal, there were more and more spaces for the Munich team, who also knew how to use them. In the 77th minute, Lea Schüller served Klara Bühl in the penalty area, who scored the 2-0 for the guests with a well-placed right-footed shot into the left corner. A corner kick from TSG striker Nicole Billa, who hissed dangerously through the six-yard box, created some tension again. In the end, however, FC Bayern made it 2-0 and made it through to the semi-finals of the DFB Cup.
Freiburg, Wolfsburg and Leipzig easily make it into the semi-finals
The semi-finals in the women’s DFB Cup are completed by SC Freiburg, VfL Wolfsburg and RB Leipzig. Freiburg won 4-0 at second division club Carl Zeiss Jena, Wolfsburg (4-0 at 1. FC Köln) and Leipzig (6-1 against SGS Essen) also won comfortably.
The draw for the semi-finals will take place on March 5th, the games will be drawn by Mirko Slomka. The dates for the semi-finals in the women’s DFB Cup are April 15 and 16.
