Women’s Champions League: FC Bayern loses important points against Ajax

As of: December 14, 2023 10:03 p.m

The FC Bayern Munich footballers dropped important points in the Champions League. After taking the lead, the Munich team couldn’t get beyond a draw against Ajax Amsterdam.

Despite being superior in terms of chances, FC Bayern Women only played 1-1 at home against Ajax Amsterdam on the third matchday of the Champions League group phase. The Munich team gave up the lead and are temporarily leading Group C. In the late game, AS Roma and Paris Saint-Germain faced each other.

National striker Lea Schüller had already given the hosts the lead on the Bayern campus in the second minute. Chasity Grant visibly unsettled the Munich team with her equalizer in the 38th minute. Coach Alexander Straus’s team opened with a 2-2 draw against AS Roma and then won 1-0 at Paris Saint-Germain.

Dallmann hit counts incorrectly not

A goal by Linda Dallmann was incorrectly disallowed due to an alleged offside position by provider Katharina Naschenweng (27th) – there is no video evidence for the women. The English European champion Georgia Stanway missed a great chance to take the lead in the second half in front of 2,500 spectators.

FC Bayern didn’t really press after the break, but then they increased the pressure. Ajax goalkeeper Regina van Ejik deflected a powerful shot from Schüller onto the crossbar. “We were too safe in the last pass and in the finish. So the draw is okay,” summed up Sydney Lohmann. Goalscorer Schüller’s explanation for the division of points was even more precise: “We didn’t score the goal.”

The second leg in the Netherlands is next Wednesday, then the FCB women will have the chance to correct things straight away. “We’re excited about it now,” said Lohmann, looking ahead.

Munich Injury concerns increase

The downer of the game was the injury to defense chief Magdalena Eriksson. The Swede fell to the ground after a duel without any external influence. She had to be taken off the field with a serious ankle injury. It is the next loss due to injury for the Munich team. Klara Bühl, among others, had to miss the game against the Dutch with a muscle injury. Eriksson’s partner Pernille Hader is currently out with a torn cruciate ligament.

Magdalena Eriksson is carried off the pitch after her injury.
