As of: 09/29/2022 9:14 p.m

The women’s soccer team at FC Bayern Munich has achieved the minimum goal: after beating Real Sociedad San Sebastian 3-1 at home, they are in the group stage of the Champions League.

Even without captain Lina Magull (corona infection), the FC Bayern women made it into the group stage of the UEFA Champions League. In the second qualifying round, Munich won 3-1 at home against Real Sociedad San Sebastian. The FCB women had already won the first leg in Spain 1-0.

The game was decided after 45 minutes. Linda Dallmann (18th), an own goal by Michaela Specht (22nd) and Lea Schüller (43rd) ensured the 3-0 lead. Synne Jensen was able to reduce the lead to 1:3 before half-time (45th). But the Spaniards didn’t gasp in the second half.

San Sebastian combined handsomely. But there weren’t any compelling chances for the Spanish runner-up. Munich’s coach Alexander Straus confidently brought the lead to the finish.

Twelve teams through qualification

With the victory, FC Bayern has reached the group stage, which has only been played for the second time. Twelve teams were determined via the qualifying matches, only Olympique Lyon were seeded as defending champions, VfL Wolfsburg, FC Chelsea and FC Barcelona as champions of the highest leagues in the UEFA ranking.

The 16 Champions League participants who have now been determined will be divided into four preliminary round groups, each with four teams, with the seeded teams being seeded as group leaders. The draw will take place at UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland next Monday 3 October at 1pm.
