The footballers from cup winners VfL Wolfsburg won 4-1 against 1. FC Köln and took over the lead in the women’s Bundesliga at least until Monday.

Svenja Huth gave the guests from the Autostadt a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute on Saturday (December 9th, 2023). Unimpressed by the goal, the Cologne team responded promptly in the person of Anna Gerhardt (25′), but Dominique Janssen scored from the spot to give the visitors the lead again (45’+3). In the second half, Vivien Endemann led the “Wolves” to victory with a Sunday shot to make it 3-1 (53rd), Joelle Wedemeyer scored to make the final score 4-1 (86th).

Freiburg stops Essen’s high flight

SC Freiburg initially stopped SGS Essen’s soaring fortunes. The Freiburg women won 1-0 (1-0) in Essen and moved within two points of their opponents in the table, who are initially still in fourth place, but can still be overtaken by Frankfurt and Leverkusen.

Freiburg showed a dominant performance in the first half and was rewarded with Lisa Kolb’s opening goal (30th minute). Although Essen took over the game in the second half, they lacked penetration and precision. This is how the Freiburg women saved their narrow lead over time.

Miss Leipzig and Nuremberg Liberation strike

At the start of the matchday on Friday, the women of RB Leipzig had missed out on a break in the relegation battle, just like their direct competitors 1. FC Nürnberg. In the duel between the promoted teams it ended 0-0 in Leipzig after a low-level game. Nuremberg initially remains second to last with four points. Before that, Leipzig is tenth in the table with six points.
