As in the previous year, the German women’s champion Bayern Munich made a mistake at the start of the new Bundesliga season. The defending champions had to settle for a 2-2 (1-1) draw against cup finalists SC Freiburg in front of 11,000 spectators after wild injury time.
Munich had previously won ten times in a row against SC.
SC Freiburg takes the lead early
Janina Minge (6th minute) gave Freiburg an early lead in the Dreisamstadion at home. National player Lea Schüller (21′) and Katharina Naschenweng (90’+1) turned the game in Munich’s favor, but Svenja Fölmli (90’+7) struck back late for the home team.
Also made a mistake at the start last year
A year ago, the Bavarians started with a 0-0 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt – it was one of only three games without a win in the entire season.
It continues on Saturday with two games, and on Sunday there will be a duel between runner-up and cup winner VfL Wolfsburg and Bayer Leverkusen. Newly promoted RB Leipzig has to go to 1. FC Köln.
