MSV Duisburg secured a point against RB Leipzig in the last minute – but remains winless at the bottom of the women’s Bundesliga.
Coach Thomas Gerstner’s team finished 1-1 (0-1) on Friday evening. Lydia Andrade (9th) shot RB into the lead early on, Antonia-Johanna Halverkamps (90th + 1) equalized for the hosts. With two points from six games, the Zebras remain bottom of the table, while newcomers Leipzig remain in tenth place.
Leipzig takes the lead early
Leipzig was the better team from the start and had the first good opportunity when MSV keeper Ena Mahmutovic was able to direct a long-range shot from Vanessa Fudalla (8th) onto the crossbar with her fingertips. A minute later, Leipzig took the lead: After a cross from the right side, Duisburg’s Vanessa Fürst cleared it right at the feet of Andrade (9th), who hit the left corner from ten meters.
Leipzig continued to control the game. In the 28th minute, Duisburg again only cleared the ball in the middle, Fudalla shot again – this time Mahmutovic was able to scrape the ball out of the right corner. Although Duisburg threw themselves into the duels and developed more of an urge to score towards the end of the first half, there was hardly anything going on the offensive.
Duisburg still too harmless
After the break, a similar picture emerged: Duisburg was unable to develop any penetration on offense and had no ideas. Leipzig repeatedly showed straightforward combinations and got more space as the playing time increased.
In stoppage time, Duisburg’s best player that evening managed to equalize. Halverkamps (90.+1) shot from a half-right position from 20 meters and placed the ball in the top left corner.
