Women’s Bundesliga, 10th matchday: Goal dreams at the end of the year

Status: 12/08/2022 7:41 p.m

With the tenth match day in the women’s Bundesliga, the year comes to an end on Friday. It starts at Eintracht Frankfurt, which meets Turbine Potsdam.

In the women’s Bundesliga, the year 2022 ends with the tenth matchday. The twelve teams want to use this to put themselves in a good position for the second half of the season.

Above all, the climbers are doing well and can end the year without pressure. Turbine Potsdam and TSG Hoffenheim, on the other hand, still have it if they still want to reach the Champions League.

Eintracht Frankfurt – Turbine Potsdam (Friday, December 9th, 2022, 7:15 p.m.)

Turbine Potsdam’s series of negatives seems to have no end. With just one point and 5:25 goals, the former top club is at the bottom of the table. In the game against Eintracht Frankfurt, Turbine now also has to do without Jennifer Cramer.

The midfielder, who had already won the championship twice with Turbine, had to leave the field after just 13 minutes in the game against Leverkusen. Because of complaining, the 29-year-old saw yellow and red.

Turbine Potsdam needs to work together even more to stop the negative trend.

Cramer returned to Turbine after a season in Italy, but so far has not been able to help the team out of the downward trend. Cramer is on the bench against Frankfurt and can only hope from the outside that there will be at least one point at the end of the year.

Bayern Munich – Bayer 04 Leverkusen (Saturday, December 10th, 2022, 2 p.m.)

What birthday present could be better? On her 22nd birthday, Klara Bühl scored the 1-0 win against FC Barcelona in the fourth minute of the UEFA Women’s Champions League game in front of 24,000 spectators in the arena on Wednesday evening. “Nobody thought that a goal would work out so quickly. It was just a great start to the game and then our match plan worked out,” said Bühl after the game.

When Munich then also won 3-1, the birthday evening was perfect. And that in front of a record crowd.

The atmosphere here in the stadium was really unbelievable, we noticed from the start that the kettle was shaking and that kindled energy in us.

Bayern can now take this happiness with them into the last game of the year when Bayer 04 Leverkusen are at home again on Saturday, only this time not in the arena.

VfL Wolfsburg – SV Meppen (Sunday, December 11, 2022, 1 p.m.)

After the fourth win in the ninth game, SV Meppen is in good shape as a promoted team. Even if there was a bit of luck in the 1-0 win against 1. FC Köln on the last matchday, as SVM head coach Carin Bakhuis had to admit. With her team she can now travel to VfL Wolfsburg without any pressure.

Meppen’s coach Carin Bakhuis can be satisfied with the course of the season so far.

There is a reunion with the former club for coach Tommy Stroot. At SV Meppen, Stroot used to look after the U17 juniors and from 2013 coached the women’s team for three years in the 2nd Bundesliga. Just like Bakhuis, he toured the Netherlands before returning to the German Bundesliga.

1. FC Cologne – SC Freiburg (Sunday, December 11, 2022, 1 p.m.)

In the Bundesliga, Cologne’s Alena Bienz (19) is still waiting for her first goal, in the cup she had already scored in the round of 16 against Turbine Potsdam. The young midfielder had moved to Germany from Switzerland but was injured at the start of the season.

“There is a higher pace here than in the Swiss league, the duels are harder, everything is much more precise and you have less time for your actions,” she said.

In the meantime, she has arrived well in the German league. So it’s time to score goals here too. The last home game of the year would be the perfect opportunity for that.

MSV Duisburg – SGS Essen (Sunday, December 11th, 2022, 4 p.m.)

Although Duisburg is playing its first season in the first women’s Bundesliga as a promoted team, the club is solid in midfield. Also thanks to captain Yvonne Zieilinski, who scored three of the nine goals scored herself. She also scored in the last defeat against SC Freiburg, even if that was “not our collar size”, as coach Nico Schneck later said.

Captain Yvonne Zielinski from MSV Duisburg also wants to score against SGS Essen.

On the other hand, it could be SGS Essen, which is traveling to Duisburg for the end of the year. Zieilinski, who is currently 13th in the top scorer list, could use the game to move up the rankings.

SV Werder Bremen – TSG Hoffenheim (Sunday, December 11, 2022, 4 p.m.)

Ereleta Memeti wants to play in the Champions League, as she recently emphasized in an interview. She also switched from Freiburg to Hoffenheim this season. Hoffenheim is currently in fifth place with 16 points – four points are missing from the Champions League place before the tenth matchday. A win against Werder Bremen would therefore be helpful on the way to Memeti’s dream.

Can Ereleta Memeti celebrate again against Bremen?

After TSG’s false start to the season, she made a significant contribution to working her way up from the bottom of the table. The German-Kosovar is known for her good dribbling and her quick style of play – and is therefore not particularly popular with opposing defenders.
