ORffrire a safe place for women victims of domestic violence and their childrena place where they can recover their psychological serenity and find economic independence that allows them to face the future: this is the goal of “Re-Birth” project, presented today, in the spaces of Cascina Carpana, in via San Dionigi 121, in Milanin the presence of the Mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala.
A home for women who are victims of violence
Two historical realities of the Milanese anti-violence network, SVS Donna Helps Donna Onlus (SVS DAD)chaired by Alessandra Kustermann, and the association Home for the Reception of Battered Women in Milan (CADMI, the first anti-violence center born in Italy, in 1986), in fact, they have been awarded the surface right concession, for a duration of 90 years, of the nineteenth-century farmhouse complex of Cascina Carpana. Together with them in the project, the sports association Campacavallowho has been practicing “soft circus and affectionate riding” for more than 16 years in an educational and inclusive way with a strong social openness.
Cascina Carpana will therefore soon become a house, with ten apartments. But also a daytime welcome placewhere women victims of violence for a year will be able to experience a professional challenge in the various activities present within the farmhouse.
In a Lombard court, work and socializing
The ambitious goal of this initiative is explained by Alessandra Kustermann, the first primary in the history of the Mangiagalli-Policlinico di Milano (retired since the beginning of 2022), today President of SVS DAD. Sara “a space, within a short Lombard, where sociality, agricultural vocation and productive work can merge to guarantee every year at least 80 women victims of violence training and a job inside the Cascina to accompany them towards independence and a better future ».

Vegetable garden, kitchen, cafeteria and kindergarten for dogs
There will be a shared vegetable garden, an educational kitchen to support the catering activity, a space for catering and socializing, a café, a grocery store, mobile refreshment points in the adjacent parks, a kindergarten for dogs, craft workshops, as well as to an exhibition area and training rooms, all production activities coordinated mainly by SVS DAD.
But also pet therapy and street art
At the same time, thanks to the Campacavallo sports association, projects open to the territory will be developed to welcome children and families and let this green corner breathe deeply, hosting citizens in all seasons for sports, recreational-recreational, educational, training activities,
of pet therapy and street art.
The design studio intervened to enhance the spaces of the typical courtyard of the Lombard farmhouse Carlo Ratti Associati and Italo Rota who “created a place for meeting, but also for recollection, capable of welcoming nature and changing with the seasons”. A protected space, therefore, but also open, aggregative and suggestive for all citizens.
