Woman who killed two Dutch people at famous French castle: ‘I was distracted by a fight’ | Car

The 39-year-old woman who last week killed two Dutch people, aged 61 and 68, at the famous castle of Chambord in central France, had ‘quarrel with a fellow passenger’ just before the collision. At least that’s what she told the police. The woman was under the influence of cannabis and heroin at the time of the collision and did not have a valid driver’s license.

The French driver of the Audi A3 is being prosecuted for manslaughter with aggravating circumstances and risks a prison sentence of ten years. She drove through the crowded area around the castle around 2 pm on Sunday 10 July and, after passing a roundabout, shoveled the two cyclists, who were killed instantly. The car then went off the road and crashed into a tree.

Mayor André Joly called the accident ‘incomprehensible’. It happened on a straight road and the driver had the sun at his back. In addition, a maximum speed of 70 kilometers per hour applies at the scene of the accident. However, the driver was distracted by the argument. According to her, that was so heated that she ran off the road and drove into the cyclists. Further research should show whether it really happened as the woman said.

coma

After the fatal collision, the two occupants of the car had to be freed from the wreckage. The 30-year-old passenger suffered life-threatening injuries and is still in a coma. The 39-year-old woman was hospitalized with broken bones and bruises. Because of the argument, she could no longer remember the circumstances of the accident, she says.

The Dutch people who died stayed during their holiday at Muides, a campsite near the castle. The couple would stay there until July 20. The relatives of the Dutch people who died are receiving assistance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
