Woman receives anonymous death threats, but seem to come from girlfriend

A woman from Oisterwijk received numerous death threats in 2022. Loes was threatened by letters and cards, but also by telephone and voicemails. Message: “Enjoy your life for a while, because you’re going to die.” According to the police, the sender was her friend Carlijn J. (37) from Moergestel, whom she knew from the athletics club.

The entire story of both friends was revealed to the court in Breda on Friday afternoon. Carlijn was arrested last year for numerous threats to her friend, such as: “I hope you were able to enjoy your life for a while. It’s your turn now.”

Loes received cards with a gravestone with her name on it and a letter soaked in blood. She told the judges how great the impact was on her life and that of her family. She is still constantly on guard since she received 5 to 6 threats a week for a long time last year.

Quarrel and violence
Both women met at the athletics club in Oisterwijk. Loes noticed that things were not going so well with Carlijn. She had a history of a lot of fighting and violence at home. Loes took care of Carlijn and even took her in.

At first Carlijn received death threats, but not much later Loes also received them: “The end is approaching. Saturday is the big day. We look forward to seeing you no longer alive,” was one of the many messages that were sent anonymously.

Report against father
And with that, the search for the sender began. Carlijn stated that her own father was behind the threats and filed a report against him. Justice had very different ideas about the origin of the letters, anonymous phone calls and voicemails. Carlijn would have done this herself and the public prosecutor had some evidence for this:

Carlijn had bought the same stamps and the same greeting cards. She had called her friend dozens of times from two numbers that belonged to her. She had left two voicemails in a robot voice, supposedly as an agent, telling them that Carlijn was dead. She hid a printer in the house that would have printed threats.

The public prosecutor called it very crude that Carlijn threatened Loes for so long and so often. Why her friend who did everything to help her? Carlijn had previously confessed to the police, but withdrew that confession in court. “Why would I do that?” she said. “I can’t live with something I didn’t do. I made my confession under pressure from the police at the time.”

Punishment demanded
The public prosecutor thought that Carlijn’s behavior should stop quickly. He demanded 80 hours of community service and a suspended prison sentence of two months, which she must serve if she commits another offense within three years.

But Carlijn must also get help, he thought, if necessary by forcibly admitting her. According to the officer, it is important that Carlijn keeps her ankle bracelet. Because of this, it is immediately noticed when she comes near her former girlfriend’s house or the athletic club.

Ankle band
Loes told the judges that she is not yet sure whether Carlijn will bother her again without an ankle bracelet. But she didn’t have much confidence that things would continue to go well. Also because Carlijn had continued to stalk her after she had made it clear by letter in September that she no longer wanted to hang out with her.

Carlijn didn’t understand it all and said it was all frightening. She no longer needs any contact with her former girlfriend and in her last word she told the judges that she has been wronged a lot and that she would never harm her friend. The verdict is on September 15.

Loes is not the real name of the victim.
