More than five years after the disappearance of more than 71,000 euros from a safe in Dedemsvaart, a 29-year-old woman from Meppel still had to answer for her possible involvement. The Public Prosecution Service previously declined to prosecute.
There was insufficient evidence against the woman for involvement in the robbery of a total of 71,000 euros, the Public Prosecution Service concluded earlier. But the victim from Dedemsvaart managed to force the Public Prosecution Service to prosecute the woman through the court.
The victim runs a trucking business with his parents. In his parents’ house is a safe that used to contain a lot of cash. His ex-girlfriend, a now 50-year-old woman from Hoogeveen, knew about that safe. She kept the keys to his parents’ house after the divorce. As a coke addict, she needed money. Her new boyfriend regularly had himself driven to the house on Sundays when the parents were at church. He then took thousands of euros from the safe each time. That friend’s driver was the 29-year-old woman from Meppel, she had stated.
The suspect, who lost her job in the judiciary because of this suspicion, has always denied any involvement. The prosecutor was remarkably short in his story. He now saw sufficient evidence in the statements that previously seemed insufficient to the Public Prosecution Service for prosecution. He demanded a two-month suspended prison sentence and 120 hours of community service. The victim’s ex was already given that sentence last year. The victim claimed 71,000 euros in damages.
Attorney Michelle Coster really saw nothing in the file that convincingly points in the direction of her client. According to her, there are only statements ‘hearsay’. She asked for an acquittal.
The court in Zwolle will rule on the criminal case on 13 October.
