The fire brigade in Boxtel was called out on Wednesday afternoon after a fire was reported in a ground-floor apartment on Ons Doelstraat. Once we arrived there, there was no fire, but there was a lot of smoke. Cause? Forgotten apple fritters.
The report came in just before five o’clock. Local residents saw smoke and were bothered by odors. Firefighters quickly caught the culprits. The resident was heating up apple fritters in the microwave and had forgotten to take them out in time.
The firefighters brought the burnt treats outside and then checked the house for carbon monoxide. When the coast was clear again, the resident was able to return inside.
