Narges (53) from Amsterdam panicked for a moment when she got stuck with her Canta between the shore on the IJ and the ferry to Amsterdam-Noord. A few bystanders eventually managed to get her to the side safely. Because she has not been able to thank these people, Narges hopes to get in touch with them again.
Narges, who is paralyzed to her waist and is therefore in a wheelchair, thought to drive onto the ferry from De Ruyterkade on Friday afternoon. But when the tailgate of the ferry suddenly closed, she literally got stuck.
Panic
Normally there is always a signal when the valve of the ferry closes, but Narges says he has not heard the sound. “I know that when the signal sounds, I should not drive onto the ferry because the valve will close. In my experience, that signal has not sounded.”
“If I had fallen into the water it would have been over”
Because of the panic she had at that moment, Narges can no longer recall what exactly happened. “At least the flap went up. Suddenly I fell down a little bit and I was stuck between the quay and the ferry.” The shock of that moment is still good for Narges. “oh my god. I’ve looked death in the eye. If I had fallen into the water it would have been over. I wouldn’t have been able to get out of the car.”
Bystanders, including two boas, managed to prevent the latter by pulling the Canta back onto the quay. Shortly afterwards the ferry sailed away, something that still does not sit well with Narges. “I don’t care whose fault it was. What I do have problems with is that the skipper didn’t come to see how I was doing.” At the same time, she is grateful to the people who helped her. She likes to get in touch with them.
Response CFP
The GVB has been asked for a response. They have asked the skippers who were working around the time of the incident for more information. No one says they know anything about the incident. The skipper of the ferry may not have noticed what was going on.
