This is reported by the Beaufort County Police Department. The victim, according to US media Nancy Becker, was gardening around the water in the Sun City Hilton Head neighborhood. According to officials, she slipped and ended up in the water. There she was attacked by the alligator.
When emergency personnel arrived, the woman was already dead. A police spokesperson tells the broadcaster WJCL that the three-foot-long alligator was guarding the woman’s body. As a result, it took more than two hours before it was possible to remove the woman’s body from the water.
Officials say the alligator was subsequently captured and euthanized.
