Woman (26) raped next to a bicycle path: 3.5 years in prison demanded

A prison sentence of 3.5 years has been demanded against a 34-year-old man from Oss for raping a 26-year-old woman. That happened in May last year. The woman was cycling home between Oss and Geffen at night when she was thrown to the ground by a man next to the cycle path and raped.

The woman was cycling home around a quarter past three in the morning on May 21 when she was chased by the driver of a red van. The bus even drove over the cycle path and straight through a bicycle pole to follow the woman. When the driver cut her off, the woman fell into the berm. The man got out and despite the woman’s resistance, he raped her.

The police launched an investigation. At the place where it happened, DNA of the perpetrator and paint of the van were found. The van was eventually recovered. This is in the name of the perpetrator’s girlfriend. Further investigation shows that the inhabitant of Oss was under the influence of alcohol and drugs when he raped her.

Dwelling on women’s suffering
“What happened to this woman is the worst nightmare of many women and every parent of young girls who cycle home alone at night,” the prosecutor said in court on Thursday. He reflected extensively on the suffering that the woman was inflicted. “The fear and panic this young woman had to go through is immense.”

The suspect was not yet known to the police. He allegedly committed the rape ‘out of the blue’ and chose his victim at random. According to experts, he has a mild intellectual disability.

The Public Prosecution Service demanded a prison sentence of 3.5 years on Thursday, plus six months of probation that he must serve if he commits another offense. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the man must also be treated. The judge will rule in two weeks.
