Wolverhampton Wanderers are parting ways with manager Bruno Lage

Only one win

Wolverhampton Wanderers and coach Bruno Lage are now going their separate ways despite a current contract until 2024. The Premier League club announced the separation from the 46-year-old Portuguese a day after the 0-2 away defeat at West Ham United. Lage and the “Wolves” had only been able to win one game this season and are in a relegation zone after 8 matchdays.

The coach took office in the summer of 2021 and finished 10th last season. “Bruno is an excellent coach, a hardworking and dedicated manager and a warm, wise and honest man. It has been a pleasure working with him and his staff throughout their time at ‘Wolves’ so it is with great regret that we have had to make a difficult decision. I honestly have no doubts about Bruno’s ability and I’m sure he will find success elsewhere, but the team’s form and performances over the last few months mean we have no choice but to act. On behalf of everyone at Wolves, I would like to express our gratitude to Bruno and his coaching staff for all their efforts during their time at the club and wish them the very best for the future,” said club chairman Jeff Shi.

Lage’s duties will initially be taken on by youth coach Steve Davis and James Collins, who are to prepare the team for the next game against Chelsea.
