Wolter Kroes thinks his fellow singer Duncan Laurence is a terrible flap turd, he shows in a remarkably long swipe in Weekend. “Generating attention every time!”
With his haughty attitude, Duncan Laurence is increasingly causing annoyance to show media and the public at home. Not only is he notorious for his arrogance, but he’s also lost quite a bit of credit as Mia & Dion’s horror mentor. And now he is at home for the thirtieth time with half a burnout. But participating in Best Singers does work…
‘That is not smart’
Incomprehensible, says Wolter Kroes. The singer himself once participated in the program and you really don’t want to sit there if you are very tired, he explains in the Weekend. Did Duncan make up his exhaustion as some sort of cry for attention? In any case, it was ‘not smart’ to bring that out, says Wolter.
Wolter: “He should have said better: ‘Sorry, my album is being postponed because of Best Singers, because that’s what I’m going to focus on now. Then we’ll release it after all.’ Then nothing would have happened. But he starts shouting: ‘I’m broken, I have a burnout and this and that’, but then to Best Singers… That’s not smart.”
Attention grabber
It is a ‘mistake’ by Duncan, says Wolter. He sees the singer as an attention grabber. “Don’t look up social media every time to generate attention, because this is now working against him and that’s a shame.”
Doesn’t he think that Duncan is being treated very harshly? “Of course I think it’s pretty bad for Duncan, because he gets a lot of shit on him. But it is actually a bit of his own fault because if you overplay your hand, you will also get that bucket of misery over you.”
Not a huge artist
Wolter thinks Duncan has delusions of grandeur. “He thinks he’s more important than he is, I think. He sees himself as a huge artist in the Netherlands and of course he does have a name, but Duncan is not that big now, is he.”
He concludes: “There is a saying: the more people, the more fans. If you overplay your hand, it’s done in this box. And that is pretty lame.”
