The top duel between VfL Wolfsburg and Manchester United turned into an exchange of blows. In the end, the “she-wolves” had the upper hand.
VfL Wolfsburg celebrated an important home win in the league phase of the Champions League. In a high-scoring top duel with Manchester United, the “Wolves” ultimately prevailed 5:2 (3:2). It was the guests from England who struck the first blow and took the lead in the 14th minute through Fridolina Rolfö. But with two goals from Ella Peddemors (17th, 37th minute) and a goal from Lineth Beerensteyn in the 45th minute, Wolfsburg turned the game around to 3-1. Before the break, United came close again through Melvine Malard (45th minute +2). Things calmed down in the second half. Beerensteyn with her second goal (65th minute) and Vivien Endemann (90th minute +6) brought the final score.
With the win, Wolfsburg now moves up to third place in the table with nine points from four games. However, the team from the Autostadt has to worry about top striker and captain Alexandra Popp, who had to be substituted in the 59th minute with a knee injury.
