Wolff no longer coaches the Oranje track bike sprinters

Olympic champion René Wolff from Erfurt has to vacate his post as Dutch national coach of the track bike sprinters after just one year.

The contract, which expires on January 31, 2023, will not be extended, the association announced. “With a view to the approaching European Championships and the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, a good solution is being sought in the short term,” explained head coach Jan van Veen.

Wolff took over the position as national coach for the second time on February 1st. The 44-year-old had already worked for the Dutch association from the beginning of 2010 until the 2016 Olympic Games. The team sprint Olympic champion from 2004 and sprint world champion from 2005 then switched to the Dutch NOK before working as a national coach in New Zealand from mid-2018 to the end of 2021. He resigned from there in December 2021.

The Dutch bike sprinters have been setting the men’s level for years. Harrie Lavreysen won two gold and bronze medals at the Tokyo Olympics and is now an eleven-time world champion. Shanne Braspennincx became Olympic champion in keirin.
