Wolf cubs born in Drents-Frisian region

Wolf cubs were born in the border region of Drenthe and Friesland. BIJ12 has just announced this. BIJ12 is the agency that handles wolf damage for provinces, among other things.

At least three cubs have been spotted in the area. “But there could be more,” says Dick Klees of the mammal association. “Often not all cubs show themselves at the same time.”

The exact location where the wolf family resides is deliberately kept secret. Conservationists fear disturbance from humans eager to catch a glimpse of the cubs. “The boys are still very vulnerable,” explains Dick Klees. “They are already walking around and you don’t want them to flee out of fear and be hit by a car, for example.”

In June it was already announced that a wolf pair has settled in the Drents-Friese Wold and the surrounding area. The two wolves have been walking around in Southwest Drenthe and Southeast Friesland for some time, but were first seen as stray wolves.

BIJ12 announced in June that there are four wolf pairs in the Netherlands that may also have cubs this year. This is actually the case here in the region. Wolf cubs were also born in the Veluwe last year.
