In the week of April 18, Waterleidingmaatschappij Drenthe (WMD) will start with the replacement of 2.5 kilometers of water pipes on the Wolddijk in Ruinerwold. Contractor BAM will carry out the work.

WMD interrupts the water supply on a number of occasions during the work. Customers always receive a message about this in advance. This concerns 65 households. It is also possible that the water is sometimes brown in color. This is due to swirling iron particles and is not harmful to health. The work will take approximately 14 weeks.

Replacement program

WMD’s pipeline network is more than 5,200 kilometers. In the coming years, WMD will replace all old pipes with PVC pipes to ensure a good drinking water supply in the future. The majority of the pipeline network already consists of PVC, but at least 700 kilometers are still made of asbestos cement. At the time, this was a common material for the transport of drinking water, but the pipes are now approaching the end of their life. Every year WMD replaces more than 50 kilometers of old pipes.
