WM | The army of know-it-alls: Flick hisses at Schweinsteiger

The German TV experts are harsh on Hansi Flick. At least from Bastian Schweinsteiger, the national coach does not put up with it.

Hansi Flick had absolutely no desire for the army of know-it-alls. The national coach hissed on ARD in a remarkable exchange of blows at Bastian Schweinsteiger – and after the World Cup debacle, he spoke plainly for once. Other former greats also criticized Flick, openly attacked him or even called for his dismissal.

As usual, Dietmar Hamann came up with the toughest analysis. “I think it’s impossible that we can continue with the coach,” said the ex-national player on Sky in all sharpness: “After this debacle we only have 18 months until the home EM, that was pathetic. Up and next to the square.”

Flick should please take Gerardo Martino (Mexico) or Roberto Martinez (Belgium) as an example. Both had resigned immediately after their teams lost the World Cup. “When I hear some comments from those responsible, I have to say that responsibility looks different,” complained Hamann. The German team “made Costa Rica, who shot on goal once in the first two games, look like Brazil”.

Flick didn’t put up with Schweinsteiger’s accusation that the players “didn’t burn”. He didn’t agree with the statement, “because that’s absolute nonsense,” snapped the national coach, and he asked the 2014 world champion: “What do you base that on?”

The answer: “Firing means not only always attacking, but also being there in your head. Too often we released the opponent and didn’t deliver it, especially the defenders. I expected a lot more from that.” With him “the spark didn’t jump over,” said Schweinsteiger, nervously turning his pen in his hand. He was “disappointed and shocked”.

So halfway the brawlers were still in agreement. But others, like Christoph Kramer, Thomas Hitzlsperger or Sami Khedira, who were still absolutely convinced of progress before the last group game, gave the critics again. “It’s part of the DFB that every position is questioned. That includes the coach. Everyone,” said former national team captain Michael Ballack.

Ballack urgently warned on “MagentaTV” against repeating the mistakes of 2018. At that time “the President stood up shortly after leaving and said: The DFB and his coaching team are analyzing it now – and then Jogi (Joachim Löw, d. Red) does it. further.” However, the first tendencies in this direction can already be seen – but DFB director Oliver Bierhoff will also be questioned this time.

Khedira, another world champion from 2014, analyzed for ARD that Flick had “gambled” the tactics. He himself was “speechless, disappointed and angry, I’m shocked.” On the other hand, Flick has proven his class at Bayern Munich: “He is strict, but at the same time a man catcher. I would wish that Hansi would stay. Despite his departure, I see him as a really good coach.”

Oliver Bierhoff will decide on that – as long as he doesn’t come under enormous pressure himself.
