WM | Problem child Doll reports after the sprint fiasco

Benedikt Doll had actually wanted to ensure more moments of happiness for Biathlon Germany, but after 55th place in the sprint, the DSV athlete finally mutated into a big problem child. With a little distance, the 32-year-old spoke up.

Five (!) shooting errors, 55th place in the sprint and therefore virtually without a chance in the pursuit at the Biathlon World Championships in Oberhof on Sunday (2:30 p.m.): Things are just not going well for Benedikt Doll at the beginning of the World Championship. Already at the start, Doll had brought the German mixed relay by a better result than sixth place because of his mistakes at the shooting range.

The DSV star fled the arena without a word after the messed-up sprint race on Saturday afternoon, and initially did not want to comment. Only in the evening did Benedikt Doll find the right words about the performance.

“A strange race today, I felt good and the setting at the shooting range was very good,” wrote the winter sports enthusiast from Titisee-Neustadt on Instagram: “It’s really annoying that I can’t manage to clear the discs in the end.”

Advice to Biathlete Doll: “Now have to do a full reset”

But Doll doesn’t want to dwell on the sprint fiasco for long: “So tomorrow will be a race to deliver a positive result again at the shooting range.” He also thanked the fans in the arena in Oberhof for the “great atmosphere along the route”.

Meanwhile, after the sprint in Roman Rees, a teammate tried to build up the disappointed 2017 sprint world champion. “You forget that you can do biathlon,” said Rees, who finished the competition 19th, on “ZDF”: “You need to rest first. He has to reset completely now! Maybe he can in the Pursue something through the field.”

2:47.5 minutes behind the new sprint world champion Johannes Thingnes Bö, Benedikt Doll will start the cross-country ski run on Sunday.
