WM | Heptathlon: Weißenberg in the long jump without a valid attempt

For heptathlete Sophie Weißenberg, all hopes of a top placement at her World Championships debut were shattered. In Eugene, the 24-year-old failed to make a valid attempt in the long jump at the start of the second day of competition.

After four disciplines, Weißenberg was in ninth place and was aiming for a top eight finish. She is the only German all-around fighter in the manageable world championship field.

Belgian Nafissatou Thiam, Olympic champion in 2016 and 2021, leads after five disciplines with 5107 points ahead of Anouk Vetter from the Netherlands (5024).
