WM | “Doesn’t make any sense”: Johannes Thingsnes Bö excludes the start in cross-country skiing

Johannes Thingnes Bö currently dominates the biathlon world at will. The overall World Cup leader was able to win all World Championship decisions in which the Norwegian took part. Because of his sensational running time, some of his competitors suggested switching to cross-country skiing. Bö has now rejected these demands.

“It annoys me that he doesn’t want to try cross-country skiing,” said biathlon icon Ole Einem Björndalen some time ago to “VG” about his compatriot Johannes Thingnes Bö. The dominator of the World Cup circus is currently running away from all of his opponents. In the individual on Tuesday, the Norwegian was almost two minutes faster than the next best runner.

Reason enough for some of his colleagues to suggest that their almost invincible comrades-in-arms switch to cross-country skiing. His brother Tarjei also thinks that the 29-year-old would do well to start without a rifle. “At a world championship there is a race over 10 kilometers. I think that would suit him perfectly,” the 34-year-old told “nordicmag.info”.

Start in cross-country skiing? Biathlon dominator Bö waves

A similar opinion is shared by Swedish biathlon star Martin Ponsiluoma, who believes that “squall could win some races in cross-country skiing”. Only the cross-country dominator and squall compatriot Johannes Hoesflot Kläbo could thwart his plans, the 27-year-old continues.

Despite the pleas of his opponents, the 17-time world champion does not seem to be thinking about a change. After his fourth triumph at the Biathlon World Championships in Oberhof, Bö clarified his position again. “The Norwegians are incredibly fast, so there’s no point in trying. I’m not interested,” said the five-time Olympic champion.

Because even without a squall, Norway is already the dominant nation. Among the eight best athletes in the overall World Cup are six Norwegians, one Italian and one Swede.
