Five days after her spectacular fall in the mixed relay, Dutch star sprinter Femke Bol has won her first world title.
The 23-year-old won gold in Budapest over 400 m hurdles after 51.70 seconds ahead of Shamier Little from the USA (52.80) and thus lived up to her role as favourite. Jamaica’s Rushell Clayton secured bronze (52.81).
Bol was looking for compensation in the final after she fell shortly before the finish line in the mixed relay over 4×400 m at the World Championships opener on Saturday – and so the possible dream of gold burst.
Now the Olympic bronze medalist and European champion has chosen to succeed Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, the Olympic champion and world record holder from the USA was unable to defend her title due to injury.
Carolina Krafzik (Sindelfingen) and Eileen Demes (Neu-Isenburg) were eliminated in the semifinals.
