WM | After a controversial gesture: Ingebrigtsen missed gold

Norway’s miracle runner Jakob Ingebrigtsen has again missed World Championship gold in the 1500 m – and thus another gap in his title collection.

The Olympic and European champion was beaten by the new British world champion Josh Kerr (3:29.38) on Wednesday in 3:29.65 minutes. Norway’s Narve Gilje Nordas took bronze in a gripping final (3:29.68).

Ingebrigtsen suffered a surprising defeat over this distance at last year’s World Championships in Eugene. This time the European record holder tried from the front, but was oversprinted on the home stretch by Olympic bronze medalist Kerr – and once again had to congratulate a Briton on his victory. Ingebrigtsen could have won his seventh major championship title in the 1500m and 5000m.

The only German starter, Amos Bartelsmeyer, was eliminated in the preliminary heat. Defending champion Jake Wightman (Great Britain) did not start due to injury.
