Without injured Mijnans, AZ is fighting for its last European chance: “Strange situation”

Things are not looking good for AZ in Europe. The Alkmaarders are almost eliminated from the Conference League. Coach Pascal Jansen’s team must win the remaining two group matches and even then AZ is dependent. “It’s a very strange situation.”

“We have to deal with the current reality,” coach Pascal Jansen said at the press conference on Wednesday afternoon. AZ will play against HŠK Zrinjski Mostar tomorrow evening and competitors Legia Warsaw and Aston Villa will face each other in England. A point for both teams is enough to spend the winter in Europe. A salon draw is therefore looming. “I assume that Aston Villa will do its duty.”

Mijnans

In the run-up to the match against Zrinjski Mostar, Jansen announced that he will not have access to Sven Mijnans for the time being. The AZ midfielder injured his knee last weekend and will only return to action after the winter break. “It doesn’t look good.”

Against FC Volendam, Sven Mijnans was injured just before half-time and was replaced by Djordje Mihailovic. A big loss for AZ, because Mijnans has already played 22 matches in all competitions this season and scored twice.

Møller Wolfe

Another player, David Møller Wolfe, also attended the press conference. The AZ left back has had a special time in the past period. Møller Wolfe played in the Norwegian national team together with superstar Erling Haaland. “I am happy that I was called up,” said the brand new Norwegian international. “Which allowed me to be on the pitch with Haaland.”
