A red circle surrounded the race at Spa, in the Mercedes factory. There in Belgium the definitive turnaround had to come. The first race after the summer break, a period in which Mercedes also thought it would be helped by stricter rules regarding too flexible floors. But it all turned out differently. Toto Wolff had hoped that the gap was smaller, that his drivers might compete again for a win. The reality was that Red Bull Racing and especially Max Verstappen had only taken more distance.
