Prince Claus, Rob de Nijs and Ernst Daniël Smid: they are famous people who were diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. More and more people are affected by this brain disease. Although not completely preventable, there appear to be some risk factors. If you pay attention to this, you may be able to reduce the chance of developing Parkinson’s in the future.
Power supply
First of all: pay attention to your diet and try to eat as healthy as possible. The Brain Foundation recommends to follow a Mediterranean diet. Consider eating lots of vegetables, fruit, fresh fish, seeds and nuts.
Not only eat healthy, but also eat organic more often. It does seem that way pesticides contribute to the development from Parkinson’s. And whether you eat organic food or not, always make sure you wash the fruits and vegetables properly.
There are also products that you should avoid, such as milk. Or others that you should use more of: coffee. The advice is to drink at least four cups of coffee per day.
Movement
Regular exercise is good for many things, including Parkinson’s. It is recommended to exercise or exercise regularly. This could be walking or cycling, for example. Preferably do this every day. In addition, research seems to show that regular intensive exercise (four hours per week) significantly reduces the risk of Parkinson’s.
But when you go cycling, pay close attention to your head. Protect it by putting on a helmet. If you fall and sustain a concussion, you may actually be more likely to develop Parkinson’s.
