With Nemo, a second act from Germany can win the competition – Music Rolling Stone

Switzerland has announced its entry for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö – Nemo. The aim of “The Code” is to win and at the same time seize the opportunity to use the music competition as a platform to “build bridges between different cultures and generations”. This is not only a reason for anticipation for Switzerland, Germany can also be excited – Nemo actually comes from Berlin and is therefore the second German person who could win the ESC.

A song about finding gender identity

At least if Isaak doesn’t receive enough points. For Nemo, it’s not just winning such a big competition that’s important, but also the statement that can be made with the performance. The goal is to “stand up for the entire LGBTQIA+ community as a genderqueer person.”

Nemo himself is non-binary, meaning he identifies as neither a man nor a woman, and also addresses this in the selected song “The Code”. This deals with the journey to finding identity, accompanied by a melody made up of rap, drum’n’bass and elements of opera. Listen to the song here before the ESC broadcast:
