The first Harry Potter series has been officially confirmed. HBO Max announced the project with a teaser
HBO Max has confirmed a Harry Potter series with the release of a first teaser. The immensely popular fantasy book series is being filmed for the first time in series form by the streaming provider Warner Bros. Discovery. Author JK Rowling, who is now often criticized for her critical statements about the recognition of trans people, is also involved in the series.
The short clip features John Williams’ famous Harry Potter theme. “Your Hogwarts letter has arrived,” the video-on-demand service wrote Twitter. Since yesterday (April 12, 8:09 p.m. local time) the teaser has been clicked more than 20 million times (as of April 13, 10:25 a.m.) on the news service alone.
Each of the seven books was reportedly set to have its own season, but HBO Max content CEO Casey Bloys said the project will run for “10 consecutive years.” It was also emphasized that the recently successful prequel “Fanatical Beasts” will not play a role and that the focus will only be on the novel series. “The new Max Original Series will delve deep into each of the iconic books that have delighted fans over the years,” Bloys said.
JKRowling and her role
The creator of “the iconic books” is an executive producer on the project. “Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me, and I look forward to working on this new adaptation, which allows for a level of depth and detail that only a long-running television series can provide,” she said in one statement quoted. Her production company Brontë Film and TV, co-founded with Neil Blair, works with Warner Bros. Like Ruth Kenley-Letts, he co-produces the series and Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts producer David Heyman is in talks to complete the team.
They’re still looking for a showrunner, and there’s no information on the cast either. The multi-part series is to be launched in 2025 or 2026.
