With hanging and strangling, Ajax takes full advantage against Vitesse

Ajax has taken over second place in the Eredivisie from AZ. The team from Amsterdam defeated Vitesse by hanging and strangling 1-2. Goals were scored through Davy Klaassen and Edson Álvarez.

After last Thursday’s elimination against Union Berlin, Ajax was keen on rehabilitation. The team from Amsterdam competed against Vitesse with Owen Wijndal, he was preferred to Calvin Bassey. The first chance was for Kenneth Taylor. The midfielder fired full on Kjell Scherpen.

Ajax got away well in the counter-punch, after Million Manhoef put Matus Bero free for Geronimo Rulli. The Argentinian goalkeeper kept his goal clean, but was able to fish a little later. Marco van Ginkel headed in hard from a corner by Manhoef: 1-0. Ajax was not put off and scored 1-1 through Davy Klaassen. Manhoef tested Rulli before the break, this time the Argentinian stopped the effort.

Edson Álvarez took the Amsterdam lead after the break. The Mexican headed a corner from Dusan Tadic into the goal: 1-2. It then took quite a long time before significant opportunities were created. A bounce from Steven Bergwijn was followed by another opportunity for Manhoef, who scored twice in the Arena. After a nice solo by Mohammed Kudus, substitute Brian Brobbey had the chance to make it 3-1, but he shot wide of the goal. Brobbey had a header chance a minute later. This one was not for him either.

Setup Ajax: Rulli; Rensch, Timber, Álvarez, Wijndal (Hato/80); Berghuis (Bassey/46), Taylor, Klaassen; Kudus, Tadic, Bergwijn (Brobbey/73)
