With “FABIAN”, Casper has released the fifth single from his album ALLES WAR SCHÖN UND NOTHING TAT WEH, which will be released on February 25th. “The song is about friendship, it’s a hymn to life and I’m happy about every person who takes longer than usual to listen to it,” writes the 39-year-old on the release of the seven-minute song.

In the song, the musician, whose real name is Benjamin Griffey, negotiates the leukemia disease of a close friend. Starting with the diagnosis, Fabian’s physical decline and Casper’s way of dealing with the cancer are told: “While I’m still ordering a champagne after the show / the size of your jogging pants goes from L to M / I hoped you could see the acceptance speech / Understand your name despite the noise”.

“It’s essentially a song about a great circle of friends”

At the end there is Fabian’s healing, which leads the piece to an ode to friendship, as Casper himself explains in an interview with the Dortmund city magazine “coolibri”: “The great thing about “Fabian” is that it starts like a song about a heavy blow of fate, but ends in a song on life. It’s essentially a song about a great circle of friends,” says the German-American rapper.
