Horn most valuable German
At the start of the season on July 1st, prominent players in the Transfermarkt database are first given the status “without a club”. Previously, their contracts had expired and a new one had not yet been officially signed – in 2021 Lionel Messi would be almost six weeks before he joined PSG on August 10. With a market value of 80 million euros at the time, the world footballer is the most valuable player to have held this status in the history of TM market values. By far the most valuable player without a club this year has a market value of €50m: Milan Skriniar.

Most recently played for Inter Milan
The 28-year-old central defender left Inter Milan on June 30 after six seasons and is likely to join the French record champions from Paris – like Messi two years ago. At PSG, Skriniar is one of a few transfers that have long been considered a deal but have not yet been announced. It is possible that this will change when Luis Enrique is introduced as the new coach. Then ex-real professional Marco Asensio (27) should also be part of the PSG squad – like Skriniar, the winger is currently one of the most valuable non-club professionals. A total of eleven free transfer players are still on the market with a market value of over 10 million euros.
Caglar Söyüncü (27; Atlético), Roberto Firmino (31; Al-Ahli) or the former Schalke player Sead Kolasinac (30; Atalanta) are only nominally without a club and should soon be presented as additions to their new clubs. The ex-Bundesliga professionals Daichi Kamada (26) and Ellyes Skhiri (28) are not there yet. Both midfielders have been associated with clubs for weeks, with Kamada it was first BVB, then Benfica and in June especially AC Milan.
The transfer there has been pending since the departure of manager Paolo Maldini, since a maximum of two new players with non-EU passports can be registered in Serie A. England’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek (27) has already taken one of those spots and the Rossoneri are said to have to choose between Kamada and Nigerian Samuel Chukwueze (25, Villarreal). At Kamada, interest was therefore recently circulated from Al-Hilal SFC, AS Roma and city rivals Inter.
Milan is also associated with Skhiri – thanks to his French passport, the non-EU regulation would not be a problem for the Tunisian international. A transfer to Eintracht Frankfurt, VfL Wolfsburg, Olympique Lyon or FC Sevilla was also discussed in the TM rumor mill – but so far it has not been really concrete in any of the cases.
Most valuable German without a club: 3x 1.5 million euros market value
From a German point of view, the players without a club do not come close to these top market values. With ex-FC goalkeeper Timo Horn (30), former Austria defender Lukas Mühl (26) and Bayer icon Karim Bellarabi (33), three players with a market value of EUR 1.5 million stand out.

With storm veteran André Hahn (32) only one other player surpasses the million mark, the long-time Augsburg player is valued at 1.2 million euros. Chima Okoroji (26), who is looking for a club after SV Sandhausen’s relegation, attracted most of the rumors in recent weeks. In the rumor mill he has already been linked to Hertha BSC, Hamburger SV and most recently FC St. Pauli.
