The British TV host traveling from the North Pole to the South Pole aboard Nissan’s electric crossover

From the North Pole to the South Pole aboard the Nissan Ariya, driven by an exceptional driver: the popular British driver Chris Ramsey. A journey of 27,000 km to be covered with zero emissions with the top-of-the-range version of Nissan’s first 100% electric crossover coupe. The four-wheeled protagonist is in fact the Nissan Ariya e-4Orce, with an 87 kWh battery and a maximum range of 493 km in the combined Wltp cycle. The two electric motors deliver a power of 225 kW / 306 Hp and a torque of 600 Nm, discharged onto the four-wheel drive. At the wheel will be Chris Ramsey, who for the first time will try to connect the North Pole with the South Pole on board in an electric vehicle. Ramsey is no stranger to similar feats, given the more than 16,000km separating Britain from Mongolia, covered in 57 days aboard the Nissan Leaf in 2017.

route and electric traction

The “Pole to Pole”, scheduled to depart in March 2023 from the Arctic Region, will wind for over 27,000 kilometers through North, Central and South America, up to the Antarctic. Glaciers, mountain passes and desert dunes will be the natural obstacles to overcome for the Nissan Ariya, thanks to its e-4Orce all-wheel drive system. To face the most demanding stretches and the most extreme temperatures, Nissan Ariya has been modified and reinforced on the outside and equipped with wheels, tires and suspension specially developed for off-road driving. The e-4Orce system will debut in Europe in parallel with the commercialization of the Ariya, expected in the summer. It consists of two electric motors, one for each axle, managed by a system that regulates the driving force and brake action on the four wheels. Among the peculiarities, the energy recovery system which brakes on all wheels and not only on the front wheels (as usually happens), thus limiting pitching during deceleration. Asako Hoshino, Nissan’s global head of marketing and sales, commented, “We are proud to have partnered with Chris Ramsey and his team. The ‘Pole to Pole’ expedition is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate Ariya’s strengths, being able to travel very long distances and move confidently on any route thanks to the e-4Orce all-wheel drive. “
