With BVB professional Haaland and FC Bayern’s Lewandowski: The eleven of the season

Total market value: 579 million

FC Bayern confidently secured their 10th championship in a row, but this time only top scorer Robert Lewandowski (33) and Joshua Kimmich (27) made it into the top eleven for the 2021/22 Bundesliga season voted for by Transfermarkt users. The Munich duo and Man City’s summer transfer Erling Haaland (21, BVB) are the only players who were able to defend their place from last year.

Newcomers are Jude Bellingham (18, BVB), Florian Wirtz (19, Bayer), Christopher Nkunku (24, Leipzig) and Nico Schlotterbeck (22, Freiburg), the four biggest gainers in market value since the start of the season. While Schlotterbeck will stay in the Bundesliga longer after his transfer to BVB, the next season for Bellingham, Wirtz and Nkunku could be their last in Germany for the time being if the form curve continues to improve – international interest is high.

Eleven of the Bundesliga season: BVB represented with Reus alongside Haaland & Bellingham

The next step could be this summer for Moussa Niakhaté (26, Mainz) and Borna Sosa (24, VfB). Niakhaté embraced his role as captain and put on the best season of his career, earning him not only a XI of the Season nomination but also the highest market value of his career. The French central defender is under contract in Mainz until 2023 – this summer the 05ers have the notorious last chance for a transfer fee in line with the market value.

At left-back Sosa, the contract runs until 2025 and is said to include an exit clause that allows a transfer for 25 million euros. The Croat’s flanks saved the Stuttgart team from relegation. The passes from Marco Reus (32) meanwhile secured the vice championship for Dortmund. His 17 assists were by far the best result of the Borussia captain, plus nine goals – the veteran was also on the pitch for 2,514 minutes. More than ever in a Bundesliga season in BVB jerseys.

Yann Sommer (33) only missed 90 minutes in goal for Gladbach and kept five clean sheets in a mixed season for the club – but the Swiss regularly provided highlights with spectacular reactions. His outstanding saves against FC Bayern, Bayer Leverkusen and Mainz 05 will be remembered. In the favor of the TM users, Sommer prevailed against Kevin Trapp (31, SGE) and Gregor Kobel (24, BVB).
