Residents can be taken from home to the polling station and back for free with a special taxi during the provincial elections tomorrow. With this, the province hopes to make the turnout as high as possible.
The transport is intended for Drenthe who cannot travel on their own. They can then be picked up free of charge from home between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m., on presentation of the voting pass. The taxi waits while the traveler casts a vote and then takes the traveler back home. For people with a (visual) disability, the taxi drives to the nearest polling station that is equipped with the right facilities.
Regional transport may go on strike on election day, so no buses will run. The province has already called for not to strike tomorrow. She also announced that she would see if she could arrange transport herself. That has now happened, together with the province of Groningen.
The taxi will arrive as soon as possible, but is subject to availability, reports the province of Drenthe. She warns that it is busy with regular rides between half past one and five o’clock.
