Junior World Championships 2023 in Novosibirsk canceled
The World Ice Hockey Federation IIHF had already made its decision on Monday evening, until further notice teams from Russia and Belarus are not allowed to take part in the international competitions at club and national team level. Russia was also withdrawn from hosting the 2023 Junior World Championships in Novosibirsk and Omsk. The 2023 World Cup in St. Petersburg is not affected for the time being.
On Tuesday, the ski umbrella organization FIS also blocked the athletes from Russia and Belarus from its events. “In order to ensure the safety of all athletes at FIS competitions, the FIS Council unanimously decided that from now on no Russian or Belarusian athlete will be allowed to participate in FIS competitions at any level until the end of the season”said the association.
Hoping for a quick end to the war
The FIS Council hopes that the war in Ukraine will end quickly, it continues: “So that the international sports community can start the healing process and compete again with all athletes and nations.”
First ski jumping, then alpine skiing and biathlon
