Winter Games in Beijing – Ski racer Kira Weidle: The goal is “always a medal”

Berlin/Beijing (AP) – Ski racer Kira Weidle is heading for the first Olympic medal of her career at the Winter Games in Beijing.

“The self-confidence is there. I’m really looking forward to the Olympics, there’s a lot possible again, you saw that last year,” said the 25-year-old from Starnberg in a Sport1 interview. “The aim of a major event is always a medal. Whether it turns out that way remains to be seen.”

“A world championship or a major event writes its own rules, and you’re good for any surprise there,” said the racer, who surprisingly won world championship silver in the downhill a year ago in Cortina d’Ampezzo. This Friday (4:00 a.m./CET) Weidle starts in the Super G, favorites are the Italian Federica Brignone and Lara Gut-Behrami from Switzerland.
