Winners | Reception planned for “Lionesses” in London

With a big reception on the famous Trafalgar Square in London, the English footballers are celebrated for their victory at the European Championship.

Up to 7,000 fans can attend the party in the heart of the British capital on Monday, the Ministry of Sport said. The square will open at 11:00 a.m. (local time, 12:00 p.m. CEST). The BBC will also broadcast the celebration from 1:40 p.m. (CEST).

The head of the English Football Association FA, Mark Bullingham, told the BBC that the Lionesses’ European title would boost women’s football in the country. “The past few years have been incredible. We’ve put a lot of effort into it and the Lionesses took the opportunity and did something incredible,” said Bullingham. “There’s no reason why we shouldn’t have as many girls playing (football) as boys and it will inspire a new generation of female players,” said the FA boss. “We’ve been preparing for this moment for years.” Clubs across the country are ready to take in girls. In addition, the association has invested in schools and created football development opportunities for girls.
