Max Verstappen is very pleased with his victory in the Grand Prix of Azerbaijan. With his victory, the Dutchman took maximum advantage of a failure of title competitor Charles Leclerc.
“We had a lot of speed and the tires held up well. We may have been a bit lucky with Leclerc’s retirement, but that doesn’t change the fact that we were very strong ourselves,” said Verstappen in a first reaction.
“I’m very happy with how the balance of the car was today and with the tires and grip it was also good, you need that here. This one-two (teammate Sergio Perez came in second, ed.) is a very good day for the team.”
The Formula 1 drivers will travel to Canada this week, where the next race is already scheduled for next weekend. The 24-year-old Verstappen found it difficult to say anything about his chances in Montreal.
“I don’t know, every weekend is different,” said the Red Bull Racing driver. You always have to be very precise and pay attention to the details. It can be different every race.”
Thanks to the result in Azerbaijan, Verstappen as World Cup leader now has a 34-point lead over Leclerc, who has dropped to third place. Number two Pérez concedes 21 points to the Dutchman.
